Our Rapid Access 'See and Treat' Service
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in Ireland, but early detection and treatment provides the best outcomes. At SSG, we provide rapid access to appointments and surgical treatment in a single sitting, ensuring quick diagnosis and effective rapid treatment when necessary. You're in the best possible hands with our expert-led team of Consultant Plastic Surgeons, who specialise in the surgical management of skin cancer and reconstruction.
Your journey, step by step
We've designed a streamlined pathway to ensure your peace of mind and the best possible care. Here's what you can expect when you choose Skin Surgery Group.
1. Referral & appointment
We welcome both self-referrals and GP referrals. For urgent GP referrals, we guarantee an appointment within 3 weeks, and non-urgent referrals will be seen at SSG within 6 weeks.
Our consultation fee is €300. All procedures are fully covered for Vhi members via direct billing - no excess will be applied. If you are insured with a different provider, we are happy to provide you with a procedure code to check your cover at our clinic.
2. Consultation & procedure
At your appointment, you will meet directly with one of Consultant Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons. They will examine your lesion, discuss any concerns, and if amenable, perform the procedure in the same sitting. Prior to consenting to the procedure, all risks and benefits of surgery will be discussed with you.
3. Results & follow-up
Following your procedure, a histology report will determine if the lesion is benign or cancerous. If the report is benign and no further treatment is necessary, both you and your GP will receive a letter along with a copy of the results. If further treatment is required, you will be sent an appointment letter inviting you to return to discuss the result with your consultant who will guide you through all necessary next steps and organise your care.

Addressing your concerns
It's natural to worry about whether a lesion might be cancerous or if treatment will result in a scar. We understand these concerns. Our consultants will thoroughly explain your histology report. If cancerous, often a wider excision is all that's necessary. For any further treatment, we provide comprehensive discussions and ensure you're fully informed and cared for every step of the way.
